Victoria · 2 varieties · study revised July 21st 2013

With only 40,000 coins minted for this year, the 1873 issue is known to be one of the scarcest dates in this series. With this publication, there are now two very distinct catalogued varieties which are extremely difficult to locate in higher states of preservation!

There is both a Narrow and a Wide Date variation, with the Latter of these being considerably more difficult to locate than its companion! It is also more interesting with its noticeably Repunched "3", which clearly displays remnants from the original digit at both ends of this Numeral!

For comparison purposes, it should also be mentioned that these 20 Cent variations have some similar characteristics to the 1873 Halves, which are also noted for their over-punched "3's".
