1946 Newfoundland 10 Cents
George VI · 2 varieties · study revised Mar. 10th 2015
With only 38,400 coins minted for this year, initially, it did not appear that the search for varieties would be very lucrative! However, with more extensive research and a little patience, this first assessment proved to be incorrect. With this came the discovery of some minor variations, which led to the first two varieties listed for this date.

These varieties were identified when it was noticed that both the Numeral "4" and the Mint Mark "C", were positioned in slightly different locations on these coins. On the first variety, both of these characters were Punched Lower, whereas, on the second, they were Positioned Higher! Because these differences are so subtle, they might not be as easily recognizable, but by observing a particular Die Break on the first of these varieties, its identification might become a little easier. This Mint Error appears to be fairly common with most of coins from this specific variety, however, not all of them have it. Therefore, on any coins without this Die Break, it will be necessary to check both the Positioning of the Mint Mark "C" and the Location of the "4", in order to confirm the identity of a specific variety.
