CVI Newfoundland

1941 Newfoundland 10 Cents

George VI · 7 varieties · study revised July 17th 2020

With 483,630 coins minted for this date, it represents the highest single production number for any of the George VI 10 Cent coins that were minted during the War Time years. This is in direct contrast to 1940 which had the lowest War Time production numbers. As a result of this high mintage, the 1941 is the easiest date to obtain and initially appears to be the least interesting! However, this first impression quickly fades once the coins from this year have been more closely examined!

At the moment, there are at least seven known varieties, including two very scarce Re-engraved variations. These latter two have been extensively Modified on the Reverse Legend, where most of the letters in the word "CENTS" and the digits in the date, have been noticeably Altered. These two Modified varieties are very similar to the 1940 Re-engraved issues. Finally, it should be added that the 1941 coins can be generally grouped into both Narrow and Wide Dates, but this difference is not always easily recognizable.
