1880 Newfoundland 20 Cents
Victoria · 2 varieties · study revised July 23rd 2013
With only 30,000 coins minted, the 1880 issue has the lowest mintage and is one of the rarest dates for the entire 20 Cent series! This in itself makes it a prize for any collector of these coins, but to make it even more interesting, there are at least two major varieties, with one of these being extremely rare!

This year can be found to have both Wide and Narrow Date variations, which are easily recognizable without the necessity of using a magnifier. These two varieties are defined by the positioning of the second "8" and the "0" with respect to the other numerals, but the most obvious difference can be seen by observing the spacing between the "0" and the Ring of Beads located to the Right of the date.
