1942 Newfoundland 5 Cents
George VI · 3 varieties · study revised Mar. 10th 2015
With a mintage of 298,348 coins, the 1942 issue is the second largest production of coinage for this particular period. Considering these numbers, it would seem reasonable to think that there would likely be a substantial number of varieties to be found, as there was with the 1941 coins. At the moment, only three significant varieties have come to light, but this could always change as more coins are examined.

These three known varieties can be readily identified by examining the size of the dates, which can be broken down into Narrow, Medium and Wide Date categories. It should also be noted that the Narrow Date variety is fairly easy to identify but with the Medium and Wide Date varieties, the differences are more subtle.
