Coin #1 in Barry's study

The first of these two major varieties has a Narrow Date which is quite easy to identify. In this case, the "3" has been punched farther from the Decorative Beads and the Style of this numeral is somewhat different than that found on the following Wide Date variety. The Numeral "3", for this particular variation, has a noticeably Wider opening between its ends, than it does with its Wide Date companion. Also, comparable characteristics of the "3" can be observed on the 1873 NFLD 50 Cent varieties, where they are particularly noticeable!
