CVI Newfoundland

1890 Newfoundland 10 Cents

Victoria · 2 varieties · study revised Mar. 10th 2015

There were 100,000 coins minted for this year and from these numbers, two noticeably different varieties emerged. In both cases, the focal point is located in the Date, with their respective "0's". The first of these appears to be quite unremarkable and normal in every respect but, in comparison to its single companion, it takes on some new importance. Whereas, the first variety can be considered the "Norm", the second is not! With this specific variety, we can easily see a variation in the "0", which is noticeably Lower and seems to hang down from the end of the date. This difference is quite obvious and is easily recognizable without the use of a magnifier. Finally, it should be mentioned that both of these varieties can be found in approximately equal numbers and they are relatively easy to find in the medium grades.
