Coin #1 in Barry's study

The final variety listed here, appears to be the last in this chain of variations where the "1" has been punched, progressively farther to right in the date. This is the Widest date of all of these variations and like the others, it is defined by the positioning of the "1". The digit has been punched so far to the right of the "T", that it nearly clears it. Also, there is a fine mark or line that runs between the "4" and "1" at the base of these two numerals. It is the result of a "Die Clash" which appears to have been a common occurrence during the production of these small 5 Cent silver coins. This tethered effect has been noted on all of the examples of this variety which have been examined so far. In addition, all of these coins have displayed extensive "Die Polishing Lines" which crisscross the Reverse side in a very irregular pattern.

Note:

Three of these varieties can also be found on page 109 of Hans Zoell's 1962 Catalog: J724a "41" in Date close together (the photo appears to be the TYPE I (a) - Narrowest Date) J724b "41" in Date farther apart (this appears to be the TYPE II (a) - Medium Date). J724c He also has another photo of an over-punched "4", for which there is no description in his book. It does not appear to be exactly like any of the Re-punched "4's" that are illustrated in this book, but it is quite possible that it may be the result of "highlighting" applied to this photo or perhaps it is an entirely different variety! (it appears to be most like the TYPE I (c) - Narrow Date, Re-punched "4")
