Narrowest Date, "5" (CENTS) with "DOT"
1941 Newfoundland 5 Cents · George VI
This first variety has the Narrowest Date of all of the known variations listed for this year, but it is perhaps, one of the most difficult to identify. The "1" has been Punched farther to the Left than for any of these other varieties, however, the differences are so subtle, that it cannot be considered as a definitive characteristic. Luckily, all of the coins that were examined from this variety, were found to have an extraneous "Dot" which is located just to the Right of the "5" (CENTS) on the Reverse Side! It appears to be a Unique and Defining feature found only with this particular variation. Most of these Narrow Date varieties display some signs of Re-punching to the Numerals in the date, however, in this instance, there are no significant Alterations. Finally, it should be noted that the current data suggests that this is one of the scarcest varieties of this group.
