Medium Date, Prominently Re-punched "8's", Re-Engraved "E"
1880 Newfoundland One Cent · Victoria
Like so many of the other variations, this particular variety also displays the typical Modifications which are so often found on the Reverse Lettering. In this specific instance, the Letter "E" in "ONE", stands out conspicuously because the Re-engraving has left it with a noticeable Tilt to its Right. This has effectively exposed the remnants of the original digit on the Upper Left side of this character. The Narrow Date variety also has a similar kind of Alteration to this Letter "E", but in this case, the effects are more subtle. All of these varieties illustrate some evidence of Re-punching to the "8's", and with many examples, it can be easily seen in the eyes of these numerals. However, with this variation, the effects are more prominent with traces of the original digits, still clearly visible around these numerals.
