Wide Date, Even "43"
1943 Newfoundland 10 Cents · George VI
This is the first of two known Wide Date varieties which have some noticeably different features. With this particular example, the date is barely Wider than any of the Narrow date variations listed before it. However, unlike any of the other known varieties, it is the only example which exhibits an Even "43" in its date. It is a small, but very important distinction for the recognition of this specific variety! Also to be considered, is the positioning of the "4" which has been punched slightly farther to the Right, leaving a Wider Gap between the "9" and "4", than can be seeen on any of the Narrow date variations. This same characteristic can also be seen on the following Widest date variation. Finally to be considered, is the location of the Mint Mark "C" between the Tails of the Ornamental Loops. In this instance, there is a subtle difference to the size of the Gaps separating the "C" from the Loops. Here it can be seen that the Mint Mark has been punched slightly farther to the Right than with any of the other varieties!
