Wide Date
1940 Newfoundland 10 Cents · George VI
The first of these Wide Date varieties, introduces a larger and more interesting section of variations, which are highlighted by their extensive Alterations to the Reverse side Legend! In this instance, it is the only known example of a Wide Date variety which does not illustrate any definite signs of having been Modified or Re-engraved. All of the following examples, also have Wide dates but they are best known for their heavily Modified Letters and Numbers! Generally, the Wide date varieties can be easily recognized by the size of the Gap between the "4" and "0". In all of these examples, there is a noticeably Wider Gap between these two digits than there is for any of the Narrow date variations.
