"Wide Date"
1942 Newfoundland 5 Cents · George VI
This last known variety is very difficult to locate in any condition and it appears to be one of the scarcer varieties of the entire George VI series! It can be recognized by observing the positioning of its "2" which has been struck farther back over the loop than it has been for either of its two companions. This has produced a wider gap between the "4" and "2", which stretches the date, resulting in this Wide Date variety. Also, it should be noted that all of the coins from this variety show some signs of a "Die Clash" on both sides, however, it is more noticeable on some examples than others!
