Wide Date, Re-punched "40" (Weak "4", Low "0")
1940 Newfoundland 5 Cents · George VI
This next variety also has a Wide date which has a noticeably over-punched "0". In this case, the remnants of the original digit are still clearly visible at the base of the numeral. The "4" and "0" are separated by a slightly Wider Gap than with the previous variety and this has resulted in the Wider date. In addition, it should be noted that the "4" on these coins has been weakly Re-punched, making it a rather eye-catching characteristic!
