Med. Date, Wide "87", Narrow "76", Low "6" & Re-engraved “F”
1876 H Newfoundland One Cent · Victoria
The second Medium Date variety appears to be unique to this large family of variations, with its combination of a Wide "87" and a Narrow "76"! In addition, the "6" has been punched noticeably Lower, which will be helpful with its identification. However, care must be taken not to confuse it with the next variety which also has a Low "6", or with the first Narrow Date variance which is the only other example found to have a similar Narrow "76"! Once again, it can be seen that the three "E's" found in the Legend, have all been modified and also, the “F” has been Re-engraved. Finally, the Mint Mark "H" is located only minimally farther to the Left side of the "N", with only the serifs of the "H" just barely covering the Left Edge of this Letter.
