Wide Date, Large "9's"
1899 Newfoundland 20 Cents · Victoria
The first of these known varieties has a "Wide Date", which can be identified by its tall, elegant "9's", with their distinctive large, open eyes. The second "9" is tilted slightly to the left of its vertical axis and it is located very close to the Ornamental Beads to its right. In addition, the Letter "T", in the word, "CENTS", has a noticeably truncated Left Hand and its Right Foot extends outward to nearly the end of the right arm, making it the longest of these varieties.
