Repositioned, Right "H", Re-Engraved Obverse Lettering
1872 H Newfoundland 20 Cents · Victoria
The last example listed in this section, is a Sub-variety which appears to have evolved from a used TYPE III (a) Obverse Die, which was subsequently Modified and put back into production. Like the previous listing, it also has the Mint Mark "H" punched over the first Letter "D" but the differences lie in the Obverse legend, where many, if not all of the Letters, have been conspicuously Re-engraved. It is most noticeable with the Lettering in the word "NEWFOUNDLAND", with the first "D" being of particular interest, having an appendage protruding from its Right side! To the same extent, most of the other Letters show clear signs of Doubling from this Re-engraving. This particular variety is extremely rare and is seldom found in any condition!
