Wide "94", Re-punched "1" & "4" , Low "44"
1944 Newfoundland 10 Cents · George VI
Of the three known varieties for this date, the first of these appears to be the easiest to locate. It has a number of different features, which define the character of this variety. The most predominant of these is the location of the last "4", which has been punched very close to the Ornamental Loop. In addition, both the "1" & "4" have been Re-punched, with a tiny section of the original "1" still visible just below the Upper serif of the numeral, and with the "4", remnants of the original can be seen within its eye. Also, the gap between the "9" and "4" for both this and the following variety, is Wider than that found on the last High "44" variation. Finally, it should be mentioned that both of its "4's" have been Evenly positioned, which is a minor but significant difference!
