Standard Obverse (Traces of Alterations)
1873 Newfoundland 10 Cents · Victoria
The first of these two varieties has had some modifications made to the Obverse Die but the coins from this group, only illustrate modest traces of any changes made to the Lettering. In comparison to the following variety, the alterations made to these specific Letters, are not particularly remarkable! The Reverse side of these coins also displays some interesting features. The Numeral "7", in the date, has been Repunched and the Letter "T" (in the word "CENTS"), has been Re-engraved. Modifications have also been observed on the following variety, but there are some slight differences between them. The "T" does not appear to be exactly the same, which seems to suggest that this Reverse Die might been used for both varieties, but was Subsequently Modified after the first group of coins was minted!
