Coin #1 in Barry's study

The first of these Narrow Date varieties is relatively easy to recognize by the very narrow gap between the numbers "4" and "1" in the Date. Also to be considered, is the positioning of the Mint Mark "C", between the base of the letter "T" (in the word CENT) and the Ornamental Dot located to its right. In this instance, it is one of two variations where the "C" has been punched very close to the "T" (centered over and between the 3rd and 4th Denticles from the bottom of this letter). Finally, all examples which have been examined to date, display an unusual roughness to their surfaces between the "4" and "1".
