WD, Repunched, Curved "7"
1907 Newfoundland One Cent · Edward VII
The first of these varieties is relatively easy to identify with the dominant feature being a Re-punched “7” at its base. At this location, towards the front of this digit, this numeral bends slightly backward to the Right and, the remnants from the original character can be seen at the bottom. On some of the more worn coin, this characteristic is difficult to see, however, the “7” still displays this distinctive curve. This has been classified as a Wide Date variety, but this classification is really only useful when in comparison to the Narrow Date variation.
