Narrow Date, Re-punched "6"
1896 Newfoundland One Cent · Victoria
The second of these Narrow Date variations does not have many significant signposts which can be useful for the recognition of this specific variety. However, there is one which might be helpful for this purpose. Here it can be seen that the "6" has been Re-punched, with traces of the original digit still visible at the Top of the Eye of this Numeral. This can be considered as a defining characteristic, but on some of the more worn examples, this feature may be more difficult to observe. Also, the Reverse Side displays some subtle signs of Re-engraving to many of its Letters but none are particularly eye-catching.
